Nathalie Perneel, born 1984, is established as a jewellery designer since 2008. She studied four years at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. During this period of time she went on a exchange with the Escola Superior de Artes e Design in Oporto. After graduating in Antwerp she felt the need to complete her studies on a higher level so she applied for the Royal College of Art in London and graduated there in 2008.
Nathalie her work is often very fine and a little bit mad. She doesn’t want to make a big statement, her intention is to offer you some joy and happiness as she experiences herself while making and creating the pieces.
“The small wire-world of jewels evokes straightforward ideas, but when looking closer, you will realise that they are the opposite of what they seem to be. They may look fragile, yet they are strong; they look deformable, yet they keep their shape; they may look like drawings, but they are three-dimensional…
In order to achieve these characteristics I had to leave aside precious metals associated with jewellery like gold and silver, and to search for other materials. Everything started with wire, as thin as hair, magic, smart and super-elastic. Wire became precious to me”.
